When we say, “This year will be different!” our minds go to ways we might manage our time, calendars, relationships, shopping, entertaining—you name it—differently so that our families and we can enjoy the busy season. But what if there is a “different kind of difference”?
As a young woman, Mary, the mother of Jesus, certainly experienced herself as “ordinary”. But as she dialogued with the angel Gabriel, she opened herself to God’s invitation to allow His extraordinary presence and purpose to break into her ordinary life.
God speaks to each of us in the midst of our ordinary lives with the amazing truth of our extraordinary identity as Beloved of God. What if the Advent Season is different this year because we live into the reality that Jesus, Emmanuel, really is with us and invades our ordinary days with extraordinary meaning, hope and purpose?
