Growing: Time Outs and Retreats
Lenten Retreats 2018
Half-day Lenten Retreat
Find Your Place at the Table
“I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. “
~ Jesus, in Matthew 8:11
Jesus uses the metaphor of a feast to describe the quality of life that he makes available. The parable of the Prodigal Son ends in a feast that celebrates the love and joy of the Father reunited with his lost younger son. On the final evening before he entered into the suffering of the cross, Jesus gathered with his disciples around a table and expressed the most intimate and personal words of love and care for his disciples recorded anywhere in scripture: “I have eagerly desired to share this Passover meal with you…”
Gathered around the table, the feast represents the fullness of life that God intends for us, the nourishment he provides along the way and the intimate circle of friendship he longs to include us in.
The Lenten Season offers an opportunity to stop and reassess our response to God’s invitation to find our place at the table, to explore the possibilities this amazing invitation holds, and to consider what keeps us from responding as we would like to.
The retreat will include teaching as well as time for guided reflection and prayer. Registration includes all materials and a continental breakfast.
